Harnesses and collars serve different purposes, and many dogs use both. The right setup depends on your dog’s size, behavior, comfort and the type of walk.
Collars are useful for identification
A properly fitted collar is a convenient place for identification tags where local rules permit or require them.
Harnesses spread pressure across the body
A well-fitted harness can distribute leash pressure across the chest and torso rather than concentrating it at the neck.
Fit matters more than style
Whatever you choose, check that the gear does not rub, pinch or allow escape. Inspect straps and clips regularly.
Training still matters
Equipment can help with management, but it does not replace loose-leash training and calm walking habits.
